COLONIE – Joseph J. Hanssen Sr., 88, of Colonie, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Albany Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Frederick and Mary Donohoe Hanssen. He was predeceased in 1986 by his wife Hazel M. Decker Hanssen. Joe was a decorated US Army veteran having served during WWII. He was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient as a result of his efforts as a military medic.
Joe is the beloved father of Shirley A. Hanssen and Joseph J. Hanssen Jr. He is the brother of the late John D. Hanssen, Francis P. Hanssen, Marion R. Waters, Catherine Adams and Stephanie Wood. He is the uncle of Ronald Wood, Herbert Wood, John Hanssen and Marion Tricomi.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend services on Tuesday morning at 10:30 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Memorys Garden. To leave a special message for the family online, visit NewcomerAlbany.com
