SARATOGA SPRINGS - Joseph J. Hennessy Sr., 58, passed away suddenly on Thursday afternoon, September 5.
He was born in Albany, on January 19, 1955 to Joseph Hennessy Sr. and Rosemary Hennessy and graduated from Voorheesville High School in 1973. He was married to JoEllen Hennessy.
Joe was a fixture in the world of professional sports during his time in Albany and later Indianapolis, before returning to the Capital District in 2005. Joe was most well-known during his time as the General Manager for the Albany Firebirds of the Arena Football League but also spent time as an on-air host for numerous sports talk radio shows in Albany. He also operated a baseball card and collectable store in Latham. He most recently worked for the Times Union Center in Albany as the Corporate Advertising Manager.
Joe is survived by his son, Joe Jr. and his wife Toni and newly born son, Jack and two grandchildren, Joe Hennessy IV and Rosemary Hennessy. He is the brother Sharyn Bargallo.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday evening from 4 to 7 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. A service in Celebration of Joe's life will be held at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204 or Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region, 1698 Central Ave., Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Joseph J. Hennessy Sr.
