PUTNAM VALLEY, NY - Joseph J. Marro, born June 6, 1934 in Troy to Saverio Marro and Petronella Cocozza, passed away February 12, 2012 at home. He follows his siblings Mary Perrotto, Michael Marro, Anthony Marro, Ernest Marro and Pasquale Marro.
He is survived by his beloved wife Carol, his siblings Virginia Botticelli and Albert Marro, and children Kathryn, Charles, Laura, Leila, Joseph Jr. and Matthew, and the many nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and grandchildren he held dear to his heart. His gentle strength, unconditional love, exceptional patience and humor will be remembered.
Committed to service to his country, Joseph served in the US Navy from 1953-1955. After graduating Hudson Valley Community College in 1957, he continued in community service, coaching in youth baseball, member of the Knights of Columbus, PTA board president for 2 years, 1 term on the school board, 2 terms on Town Council for Putnam Valley, 12 years on the library board of trustees (instrumental in the construction of the new library), the boards of the Historical Society and Youth Sports Association. He served for 25 years on the Putnam County Traffic Safety Board. He is perhaps best known for 25 years of service as a dedicated member of the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend graveside services on Thursday at 12 noon at St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy. The visitation and Funeral Mass will be held in Putnam Valley.
