Joseph L. Wells

August 21, 1948 — September 28, 2013

GUILDERLAND-Joseph L. Wells "Les" 65 of Guilderland left the bonds of his body and passed into eternal peace on Saturday, September 28, 2013.
Joe was born in Albany, one of seven children of the late Joseph E. and Veronica (Niles) Wells. After graduating from Cardinal McClusky High School, he served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked as a correction officer for Albany County upon his return from duty.

Joe was an avid photographer and train enthusiast and pursued both of these loves taking long rail vacations and photographing the scenery. He met his future wife, Pam Stressel in 1980. He earned his Associate's Degree in Accounting from Hudson Valley Community College in 1990. Joe was later employed by Albany Medical Center and Anthem Health Care until retirement.
Joe enjoyed many activities including fishing, amateur radio, model trains, railroading, and cooking. Joe believed in giving back to the community and although he was limited in what he could do himself in later years, he instilled this value in his sons and took extreme pride in the fact that both of them became volunteer fire fighters for the Fort Hunter Fire Department while they were still in High School. Joe had his greatest sense of accomplishment when each of his sons achieved their Eagle rank in Boy Scouts.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife Pamela Stressel Wells; beloved sons Brendan and Eric Wells; his siblings Mariellen (David) Boomhower, Darlene (Michael) Wisnewski, Michele Wells, J.E. (Kathy) Wells, Joyce (Robert) Wells Scuderi and Claire (Walter) Piccorelli. He also leaves behind his aunt Sister Joyce Niles, RSM and several nieces and nephews.
