Albany – Joseph James Marino, 86, of Cohoes, died at the Veterans Administration Hospital on Thursday June 5, 2008. Mr. Marino was the son of the late Joseph J. and Margaret (Donato) Marino of West Albany and stepson of the late Vingie (Zeccola) Marino. He was the beloved husband of Susan (Vazanna) who sadly predeceased him in 1972, the father of Joseph S. (Suzanne McGinnis) of Schenectady and Noreen (Fred) Walker of Ganesvoort. Joe is also survived by his sister Lena Sedgwick, his stepbrother James Zeccola, many loving nieces and nephews and his friends at Ogden Mills Apartment. He is predeceased by his siblings Mary, Angie, Charles, Frank and stepbrothers Pat and Lou Zeccola and his stepsister, Mary.
Mr. Marino was a proud member of the US Army, serving as a sergeant in the Philippines in WW II. Upon discharge, he was employed at the New York Central Railroad in West Albany, the Stanco Funeral Home, Scaringe Realty and as a route salesman with Norman's Kill Dairy. Mr. Marino and his son co-owned and operated Horan's Tavern on Livingston Ave. in Albany for 23 years. He was a former Albany County Veterans of Foreign War Commander and held a special regard for veterans in all branches of service. He was also a lifelong member of the Italian Benevolent Society in West Albany.
Joe's quick wit, political insight and uncanny memory served him well to his final days. His strong work ethic, sense of pride and concern for his family were lifelong traits. He was an avid sports fan with a talent for cooking and a desire to be around people. Joe never really "retired" and regularly accompanied his best friend Joe Jr. on many real estate and auction activities.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. Phillips, Dr. Gutten, the ICU staff and all those at the Veterans Administration Hospital who showed Joe immense concern and dignified care during his hospital stay.
