ALBANY- Joseph Frank Pierce, 60, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday July 2, 2008. Joe was born in West Carthage, NY the son of the late Donald and Bernice (Powell) Pierce. He grew up in the foothills of the Adirondacks and then attended Clarkson University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. As a young man, Joe moved to Colorado where his love of the outdoors and of environmental concerns grew. Within a few years, he moved back east to Rindge, New Hampshire and started a family. He moved to the Albany area six years ago.
Joe was an Environmental Engineer and started his career as a civilian contractor for the Federal Government. At the time of his retirement, Joe was the Supervising Project Engineer with the Army Corps of Engineers where he was responsible for the clean up of the Central Ave. Colonie site. He loved to hike and back pack and the wilder the wilderness, the better. Joe was an inspiration to many in his service to others, his unity with friends and in his spiritual conviction. His example helped many people in their time of need, with their personal growth and acceptance of life in all its stages. Joe was a devoted and loving father who raised his children as a single parent in cooperation with their mother. His love, strength and fun loving attitude helped shape the people they have become. Joe's greatest passions were his family and friends. He is survived by his children; Lucille and Jeremie, his siblings; Carol (Cliff) Soucy, Phil (Lois) Pierce, Stuart (Ladi Lu) Pierce, Paul (Kathy) Pierce and Elaine (Ed) Salvetti and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 9:00AM Wednesday at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155 south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Tuesday 4:00 to 7:00PM at the funeral home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Sierra Club
