ALBANY – Joseph R. Carhart, 70, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2015 after a long illness. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Mary T. (Chiore) Carhart.
Joseph served and was honorably discharged from the Navy during Vietnam, where he was part of the Gemini V Capsule team aboard the U.S.S. Lake Champlain. He worked for Albany Quality Inn, Mohawk Brush Company, and retired from Albany County Nursing Home after 20 years. In his free time, Joseph collected model cars and trains. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, camping and fishing. Joseph loved going to car shows.
Along with his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his siblings, Edward J. and Joan E. Carhart.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cecelia L. (Hammond) Carhart; children Joseph B. Carhart (Christine M.) of Glenmont and Wendy M. Masterson (Stephen M.) of Mooresville, NC; grandchildren Megan H. Carhart, Alyssa M. Carhart, Ethan A. Masterson and Kiera A. Masterson, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 9:30 am at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will be on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
