Joseph S. Benedict, Sr.

ALBANY – Joseph S. Benedict, Sr., 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 1, 2013 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Samuel and Margaret Benedict. Joe lived in Albany for all of his life. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. Joe was a member of the VFW Post in Clifton Park. He retired from Sears in Colonie Center after twenty-two years of service.

Joe is the beloved husband of Phyllis A. Benedict. He is the father of Joseph F. (Joan) Benedict, Jr. of Clifton Park and the stepfather of Anthony (Terry) Geisel of Ballston Spa, Michele (Patrick) Safford of Cohoes and the late Paul D. Geisel. Joe is the grandfather of Toni, Shari and Joseph,III and great-grandfather of Danny, Erin and Ellen. Also surviving are several step-grandchildren.


Funeral services will be Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will precede the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Pine West Plaza, Bldg. 2, Suite 204, Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Joseph F. Benedict, Sr.
