GUILDERLAND- Joseph W. Spurney, 74, of Guilderland, passed away after a long illness on Friday July 20, 2007 at the Inn of Community Hospice at St. Peters Hospital.
He was born in Astoria, Queens and was the son of the late Joseph and Emma Spurney. Joe served in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1953. He was a mechanic with Sheet Metal Worker's Union Local 28 in New York City for 35 years, retiring in 1992. He has resided in Guilderland for the past ten years. Joe was a talented craftsman and enjoyed woodworking and carving. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family and his kindness and willingness to help others.
He is the beloved husband of fifty one years to Julia DeMori Spurney. He is the loving father of Jenifer Kent, Joseph L. (Carrie) Spurney and Jane (Thomas) Michaelides. He is the devoted Grandpa of Jillian, Stephen, Krysta, Thomas and Ryan.
Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 9:15 at Newcomer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave) then to Christ the King Church at 10:00 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
