Joseph R. Squadere Jr., 80, of Bradenton FL, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 9, 2023. Joseph was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Rita Y. Squadere, and his parents, Joseph Robert and Agnes Rush Squadere.
Joe grew up in Latham, NY and attended St. Patrick's Parochial School. He graduated in 1961 from Christian Brothers Academy where he was a proud trumpet player in the marching band. Joe was a dedicated employee of the Nashua Corporation for 35 years. He "retired" in 1997 and worked part time for Trustco Bank and umpired softball for the Capital District Assoc. Of Umpires. He will be remembered by many for his strong work ethic and dependability.
Joe married the love of his life Rita in 1963, and was a devoted father and husband. Joe was also a caring friend and brother - always willing to lend a helping hand. He and Rita loved to travel; their adventures included exploring many of the fifty states, Europe, the Cayman Islands and snow birding to Naples, FL. Joe was an active member of St. Edward the Confessor Church in Clifton Park where he served as an usher for several years. He was also a member of The Knights of Columbus and The Elks Club, where he enjoyed spending time with close friends. Joe was a sports fan and spent many years rooting for the NY Giants & Yankees, he also loved to watch horse racing at Saratoga Race Track.
One of Joe's greatest joys in life was spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. "Grandpa Joe" was a great role model and shared his hard work ethic and zest for life with all. He became a homeowner in Bradenton FL in 2021, where he enjoyed the sunshine and made many wonderful friendships.
Joe is survived by his children, Lynne (Regis) Miles, Mark Squadere and Joseph Squadere III (Jeanette Johnson and daughter, Talia); his grandchildren, Sean (Katelyn) Miles, Kevin and Elizabeth Miles; his siblings, Tim (Barbara) Squadere, Ronald (Marcia) Squadere, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A special thank you goes out to the staff of the ALS Center (especially his RN Trish) and the staff at Saratoga Hospital for the wonderful care they provided to Joe.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Edward the Confessor in Clifton Park, NY at 10:30am on Monday, October 23, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joe's memory to the St. Peter's ALS Regional Center, 19 Warehouse Row, Albany, NY 12205 https://www.sphp.com/assets/documents/sph/als_contributionform.pdf.
