GUILDERLAND – Joseph V. Siggia, 83, died Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the VA Hospital in Albany, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Brooklyn and was the son of the late Antonio and Josephine Siggia. Joe was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran serving in the Pacific Theater from 1944 through 1946 and was part of the American occupation of Nagasaki. He worked for the New York State Office of General Service for 38 years. Joe was the head of Design and Construction for the World Trade Center and Assistant Director of the Empire State Plaza. Joe retired from the State in 1983, but that was short lived. He was involved in the design and construction of numerous area fire houses, restaurants and private homes. As the Clerk of Works for the Church of St. Madeleine Sophie, Joe volunteered numerous hours overseeing its completion. Joe was a 51 year member of the West Albany II Volunteer Fire Dept., serving as past president and commissioner. He was a life long member of the Colonie Elks #2192 and was Commandant of the Marine Corps League Electric City Detachment. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Dell Siggia. He is the devoted father Tom (Cathy) Siggia of Schodack, John (Dee) Siggia of Colonie and Jeff (Rose) Siggia of Guilderland. Joe was a wonderful grandfather to Lindsay, Elise, Samantha and Nickolas and step-grandfather to Alexis. The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to Yvonne Leo for her kindness, compassion and assistance over the years and also the staff of the VA Hospital for treating a Marine with the dignity and respect he deserves.
