COLONIE – Joseph W. Falkenheimer, 90, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2011, with his family by his side. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Peter and Sarah Falkenheimer. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran serving aboard the U.S.S. Allentown in the Pacific during World War II. Joe has resided in Colonie since 1960. He was an auditor for the State University Construction Fund retiring in 1986. He was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mercy Church and more recently Christ Our Light Catholic Church. Joe and his wife enjoyed attending annual reunions with the Allentown Crew. He also enjoyed camping, baseball and especially children. Joe will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and singing a song for every occasion. He is the beloved husband of nearly sixty years to Elsie F. Falkenheimer. He is the devoted father of Sharon A. Falkenheimer of San Antonio, TX, Deborah J. Greer of Delmar and Mary Beth (Russell) Jones of Colonie. He is the loving brother of Sally Cox of Albany and the late William and Conrad Falkenheimer and Elizabeth Chalmers. Joe is the cherished grandfather of Jason M. Greer and Nicole M. (Matthew) Wereb. Also surviving is his great-grandson, Ethan R. Wereb and many nieces and nephews. Joseph is the godfather of Kenneth W. Fisher and the late Frank Landau. Joseph's family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kevin Costello, Dr. Crisafulli, Colonie EMS and Fuller Road Fire Dept.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to Christ Our Light Catholic Church, Loudonville (formerly St. Francis de Sales) at 9:30 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to the Capital City Rescue Mission, 259 South Pearl St., Albany, NY 12201, Salvation Army, 452 Clinton Ave., Albany, NY 12206 or Covenant House N.Y., 460 West 41st Street, New York, NY 10036 in memory of Joseph W. Falkenheimer.
