ALBANY- Josephine Isgro, 93, entered into heaven on November 27, 2015 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center. She was born on July 9, 1922 to the late Nicola and Caterina Curro in Gualtieri Sicamino, Sicily, Italy.
Josephine was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. While she raised her family she was employed by Sherry's Department store as a seamstress working with bridal and formal attire.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Biagio Isgro. In addition to her husband Josephine is also predeceased by her sisters, Caterina Genovesi and Mattia Curro.
Josephine is survived by her children, Anna Marie Saia and Biagio Isgro, Jr.; her grandchildren, Anthony (Colleen Marie Wilson) Saia, Joanna (Patrick) Mahar, Joseph Isgro, Andrew Isgro; great-grandchildren, Shelby Saia, Aaron Saia, Mariana Mahar, and Annalise Mahar; sister Paolina Curro; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was proud of her Italian heritage as a member of the Roma Intangible Lodge #215 Order Sons of Italy and she instilled a strong sense of family and traditions in all of her loved ones.
The family would like to thank Irene, Rich, nurse Cathy and the staff of the Fatima unit of Our Lady of Mercy Life Center for their care and compassion during her stay.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 9 am at All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St, Albany, NY 12203. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4-7 pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205. In lieu of flowers, the family is establishing a scholarship fund in memory of Biagio and Josephine Isgro, donations may be made to the Grand Lodge of New York Foundation, Inc., 2101 Bellmore Avenue, Bellmore, NY 11710 and earmarked "The Isgro Scholarship".
