EAST GREENBUSH – Josephine J. Shorkey (Josefina Juan Sabater), 87, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2012. She was born in Valencia, Spain and was the daughter of the late Jose and Carmen Sabater. She married her late husband, Howard Shorkey, on December 10, 1958 in Valencia, Spain. Before her marriage, she was a very successful professional dancer of the Spanish classics, including Flamenco, and traveled through Europe and South America competing in major competitions. Josephine could be seen at many gatherings dancing beautifully with her husband. She traveled with her husband and resided in Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Greece and a few states in her lifetime. Josephine loved hosting gatherings, cooking, playing cards and socializing. She was a very skilled culinary artist. She loved all of the holidays and decorating at Christmas time was her favorite. Josephine always had a smile, a wave hello and kind words for anyone she ever met or spoke with. She was very family oriented and put her husband and son before herself. Josephine was loved by all who knew her. She also loved dogs and, for most of her life, always had one by her side.
In addition to her parents, Josephine was predeceased by her beloved husband, Howard Shorkey, a sister, Carmen and a brother, Vincente. She is survived by her devoted son, Michael D. Shorkey of Corning NY. She is the cherished aunt of Theresa Guevara and Graciela McCorkell and the loving cousin of Maria and Pilar Sabater. A personal thank you to Josephine's extended family for their unwavering support.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, Troy. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will follow the Mass at 2:00 p.m. in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
