Joyce A. Sammons, 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at St. Peters ICU with her loving family by her side.
Joyce was the daughter of the late Carl and Leola (Wood) Witte.
Joyce was the devoted wife for over 53 years to William R. Sammons. They were married in 1962 in St. John's Lutheran Church.
She was a cub scout leader with troop 84, where they marched in the bicentennial parade and they were awarded a certificate from the governors office for their performance.
She began working at Albany County Nursing Home and at Ann Lee Nursing Home as a Nurses Aide for many years. Then she worked at Phillip Schuyler School in the cafeteria for several years, where she was a past president with the PTA. Then she furthered her career as a nurses aide for the Albany Guardian Society, and finished her career at the Atria.
Joyce enjoyed shopping, collecting tea pots, lamps and loved her miniature high heels collection. She enjoyed listening to Elvis and she loved Christmas and her Christmas get together's with the family. Her favorite flower was the yellow rose.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her grand daughter, Ashley, her daughter-in-law, Monique and her son-in-law, David Birt.
In addition to her husband William, Joyce is survived by her children; William R.J. (Christina) Sammons, Christina Sammons-Birt, Carl Sammons, Jessica Sammons and Katherine Sammons. She is the cherished "granny" of Desiree, Kashawn, Jaison, TaVonna, Aleena, Serianna, Amiya, Jahiem, Gabriel, Tyshawn, Tyquan and Reagan; and great grandmother of Payten. She is also survived by many dear friends and family including; Tina Delligan, Chris Coons and family, Veedia Snell, Janet Stark, Brenda Tarutis, Tracy Tarutis and Lynda Halbritter-Lawyer.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Memorial calling hour will be on Saturday, December 10, 2016 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. A memorial service will follow the calling hour at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
