Judith A. Stephens, 42, passed away Friday, February 27, 2009, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Judy was born in Jamaica, NY, and was the daughter of the late Andrew and Barbara (Powell) Stephens. A 1988 graduate of St. John's University, Judy moved to the Capital District in the late 1990s, becoming active in her community. She worked for WAMC Radio, Good Samaritan Home in Delmar, and more recently Unity House of Troy as their Recreation Director. Judy had a one of kind giving spirit and volunteered for several local organizations and charities. She was a member of and an active participant in Gilda's Club of the Capital Region. She was also an active member of New Horizons Church of Albany.
Judy is survived by her siblings: Andrew V. (Nadine) Stephens of Lorton, VA; Peggy L.S. Barmore of Guilderland; Ronald L. (Diane) Stephens of Elk Grove, CA, and Rachel M. Stephens of Lynbrook, NY, and nieces and nephews: Allan Clark, Heather Barmore, Katina Stephens, Garrett Barmore, Andrew Stephens, Jr., Justin Stephens and Zoe Stephens. She is also survived by her special friend Alphonso Holt.
Funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at New Horizons Christian Church, 146 Catherine St., Albany. Calling hours will be held preceding the service from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at family cemetery in Butler, AL. Donations in her memory may be made to Gilda's Club Capital Region New York.
