Judith Ann Lott

June 24, 1933 — February 7, 2025

Judith Ann Lott passed away peacefully at home on February 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Albany, New York to the late Ralph and Helen Hoose Bullock. Judy had fond memories of her childhood in her hometown of Hoosick Falls, New York, growing up alongside her older sister Mary Harriett, who predeceased her in 2020. After high school she attended Syracuse University and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority where she met her husband Winsor Lott (he was the sorority’s “house boy”). Judy graduated cum laude from Syracuse University in 1955 with a bachelor’s degree in Botany and a minor in Math Education. That same year Judy and Win married and moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky, where they welcomed their son Steven. After Win was discharged from the Army they moved to Binghamton where their daughter Elizabeth was born. They relocated to Albany and had two more daughters, Catherine and Nancy.

Judy was a devoted caregiver to her family, and enjoyed a full social life as well as working a number of part-time jobs including Indian Ladder Farm, library aide and nursery school teacher. In 1978 Judy earned a master’s degree in Library and Information Science at the State University of New York at Albany with a Media Specialist certificate and launched her new career as a school librarian. She worked first at Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons High School and later at Doane Stuart School, where she especially enjoyed reading to the elementary school children. For twelve years, she also worked summers at Skye Farm Camp in the Adirondacks as the naturalist; she was affectionately known there as “Mother Nature.”

Judy was an active member and sang in the choir at McKownville United Methodist Church for many years. When she bought her house in Schenectady in 1992, she became a very active member of Eastern Parkway UMC. In addition to singing in her church choirs, she was a joyful participant in the 500-voice Festival of Praise choir and the Octavo Singers. She was an energetic volunteer and enjoyed meeting the people she helped and her fellow volunteers at the Schenectady Theatre for Children, Literacy Volunteers, Ellis Hospital, and the SICM Food Program. She was a generous giver and contributed to many organizations and causes. She was particularly supportive of the power of education, the unique role of public libraries, and the importance of protecting the environment. She traveled extensively, including a once-in-a-lifetime three-month cross-country trip with her beloved sister.

She was the mother of four, grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of three and loved to tell people “They’re all mine.” Judy will be remembered for her wonderful smile and delightful personality, her love of storytelling, singing, travel, nature hikes, camping, knitting, and quilting.

A celebration of Judith Lott’s life will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the Eastern Parkway United Methodist Church, 943 Palmer Ave., Schenectady, New York 12309. Refreshments to follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Judy’s honor to Skye Farm Camp and Retreat Center, 1884 E Schroon River Rd, Warrensburg, NY 12885.
