COLONIE - (1924-2015) Julia Blakeslee Morehouse of Appleblossom Lane entered into eternal rest on July 17th, 2015.
Born in Flushing, New York on January 17th, 1924, she was brought to Albany as a young child and lived in this area throughout her lifetime.
For 33 years, Mrs. Morehouse had been employed by Northern Industrial Services, a Colonie engineering research and development firm, from which she retired in 1992 as Manager of Personnel & Security. For the prior 14 years she had been a Research Coordinator at the Sterling-Winthrop Research Institute in Rensselaer.
A graduate of Albany High School and the Mildred Elley School, Mrs. Morehouse was a founding member of the Albany High Class of 1941 Reunion Committee. She was one of the first female members of the American Society for Industrial Security, serving locally as Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary.
Julie's many interests included reading, gardening, thoroughbred racing, cryptography, antiques, rare coins and stamps, and recorded music. Since adulthood she had been a member of the Metropolitan Opera Guild and more recently of the Bel Canto Society, both in New York City. A prolific writer and social correspondent, Julie was a Pen Pal to many notable persons throughout her life.
Daughter of the late Charles Millar and Hazel Babbitt Blakeslee, she is survived by a son, Charles H. Morehouse of Colonie. Howard E. Morehouse, Jr., her husband of fifty years, passed away on May 5, 2007. Surviving cousins include Richard (Isabel) Babbitt of Chateaugay, New York, Mrs.Chieko (Norman) Heining of Laguna Hills, California, and a host of cousins on the Blakeslee side.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the New Comer Funeral Home located on 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY, 12205 on Thursday July 23rd from 6PM to 7PM, and to attend the religious service immediately following. Interment will be at Albany Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
