Julia L. Jenkins

1937 — 2025

The Remarkable life of Julia L. Jenkins

Julia Lee Jenkins (Mama Ju), 87, wife of the late Joseph Jenkins, gained her wings on March 4,2025 at the Troy Center. She was surrounded by her family.

Born April 28, 1937 in Jacksonville, Florida, she was the daughter of the late John and Rosa Williams. They instilled in her hard work, determination, and empathy. From a young age Mama Ju was known for her assertive and resilient personality. She had a big, beautiful smile that just lit up any room she walked into. So many people loved her and her charming spirit. She had a knack for connecting with people anywhere she went. Her strength was admirable. She fought until the very end.

Mama Ju was a young mom. She raised two children, John Dowdell jr. and Regina Dowdell, with the help of her immediate family. She taught them to do their best, stay out of trouble, treat people with kindness, and to help others without looking for anything in return.

Mama Ju graduated from Philip Schuyler Highschool, and went on to earn her Associate's degree at Hudson Valley Community College. She loved working with children. Her last place of employment was with Giffen Memorial Elementary School. She had a significant impact on many families throughout the years.

Some of her hobbies included sewing, baking desserts, listen to music, traveling and crafting. She found joy in being around family and giving back to the upcoming generations. Her soul touched us in the most beautiful ways. She will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her children (Regina Dowdell and John Dowdell jr. and his wife Juanita Dowdell); Grandchildren (Karlan Marable and long-term partner Shemika Robinson, Makai Dunne, Janai Quinones, and John L. Dowdell III) ; Great grandchildren (Kaylon Marable, Keishara Griffin, Keiara and Alexandria Kirksey-Marable, Keisiah and Shaquille Fowler, and Tah’ziarreya Marable); Great-great grandchildren (Rahmell Kirksey, Jahv’el Griffin-Johnson, Kay’arii Marable, Jah’ky Griffin, Ka’saai Marable, Josiah Griffin, Jadaya Harrison, Janyis Haughton, and Kendrix Fowler). A host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predecesead by her Siblings (Anne Spencer, Isaac Paul, Rebecca Paul, and Jane Davis); Nephews (Theodore Paul and Isaac Paul jr.); Nieces (Roseanna Shaw and Valerie Paul) and Granddaughter (Kylea Marable).
