Julia K. Shutts

COLONIE-Julia K. Shutts, 91, a longtime resident of Colonie died Tuesday evening June 10, 2014 following a brief illness. She was born in Amsterdam, NY on March 28, 1923 and was the daughter of Daniel J. and Margaret (Keavney) Keiley. Julia is a graduate of St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam, NY. She married Harold I. Shutts on December 30, 1945. Harold predeceased her on November 2, 2010. Over the years, Julia had been employed at the Amsterdam Evening Recorder newspaper and the NYS Unemployment office in Amsterdam. The family relocated to Colonie, NY in 1966. Julia went to work for Manufacturers Hanover Bank in Latham and then to the NYS Dept. of Encon as a librarian, where she retired from. Julia was an avid seamstress, and enjoyed knitting, playing bingo at the senior center and watching game shows. Julia was a communicant of St. Clare's Parish in Colonie.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law Lawrence and Marie Shutts of Bennington, VT and James and Pamela Shutts of Antioch, CA. She leaves five grandchildren Patrice (Nick) Pello of Hoosick Falls, NY, Kristen (Michael) Furtak of Portland, CT, Katie (Matthieu) Vallier of Vernon, CT, Zachary Shutts of Traverse City, MI and Jillian Shutts of Antioch, CA. Julia also has three great grandchildren Amelia and Natalie Pello and Brady Furtak. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Anne Seward Keiley of Amsterdam, NY and several nieces and nephews.
Julia was also predeceased by one son Thomas, her sister Ellen Kenney and her brother Francis Keiley, as well as one sister-in-law, two brothers-in-law and one nephew.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 PM on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, June 16, 2014 at St. Clare's Church, 1947 Central Ave. Colonie.

Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY.

Contributions in her honor may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society to benefit research in finding a cure.
