Julia Patricia Scales Royal made her entrance into this world on Saturday, January 11, 1958 in Albany, New York. She was the daughter of devoted parents, the late Ruth and Arthur Scales and became the joy of their lives. Academically she excelled at St. Joseph Academy and Maria College in Albany.
A lover of animals, Julia grew up with a dog, a rabbit and cared for 9 exotic birds as an adult. But her love of nature did not stop there. To beautify her life, Julia cultivated a green-thumb by growing house plants, gardening extensively and producing lovely flowers in her backyard.
Her enjoyment blossomed as she drew nearer to the Lord Jesus Christ having embraced Him as her Savior at an early age. With constant guidance from family, Julia strengthened her spiritual life and created a genuine love for God. "Julia was indeed a woman of principles, integrity, moral-courage and values according to her husband of 7 years" Jonathan Royal.
Jonathan and Julia met through his sister, Winifred Young in the mid 1980's. Their friendship grew and they became the best of friends. As husband and wife, the couple honeymooned in New York City and later in their marriage they traveled to Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Julia had a special way of making her husband laugh and created a love nest for him. She was a good cook and enjoyed the simplicities of domestic bliss. Indeed, Julia was a faithful and loyal spouse.
Professionally, Julia worked in two major capacities in her short life. She was employed by the Veterans Administration Hospital for many years before departing to care for her elderly mother. Later she sought a new career with the Prudential Real Estate Agency as an independent sales agent. On August 23, 2006 she received a prestigious certificate from the Greater Capital Association of Realtors.
In 2008 Julia was diagnosed with cancer and fought the good fight. It was her faith in Christ Jesus and the sustaining prayers of the members at the Mount Moriah Ministries of Glenmont that upheld her during her time of struggle.
Her quiet demeanor fulfilled the words of Isaiah 30:15; "in quietness and confidence shall be your strength." Those who knew her came to appreciate and admire her gentle quiet presence. On the evening of September 27, 2011 the soul of Julia entered the presence of her Lord.
Julia is survived by her adoring husband Jonathan Royal; her aunt Marjorie E. (John) O'Neal of Brooklyn, New York and an uncle, Roy Kelly of Pembroke Pines, Florida. She leaves to mourn and memorialize her life; cousins, friends and a total of 5 sisters-in-laws and 4 brother-in-laws of the Royal family.
