GUILDERLAND-Julie (Fallon) Foley, 77 of Guilderland, NY passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at St. Peter's Hospital after a long and courageous battle with mesothelioma. She was born in Albany, NY the daughter of the late John and Berneice (Weisel) Fallon. Julie graduated from Voorheesville High School. She earned a bachelor's degree from Ithaca College and her master's degree from Siena College. Julie was a Physical Education teacher at Berne-Knox Westerlo High School from 1960 to 1995. While at Berne, Julie's tenure included coaching all girls' sports, class adviser and Athletic Director. She and her husband made many lifelong friends amongst the faculty and students at Berne-Knox Westerlo. It was there Julie met her husband Joseph P. Foley. They were married on December 16, 1961. Julie and her husband resided in the Guilderland area most of their life. After her husband's death, Julie returned to teaching in 2001 at the Academy of the Holy Names, where the students, faculty, and staff held a special place in her heart. She remained at the Academy of the Holy Names until 2013, when her illness prevented her from continuing her love of teaching. She was dedicated to teaching Physical Education and instrumental in the development of organized girls' sports in NYS. Julie coached at the Empire State Games and represented Section 2 on various NYSPHSAA committees. She loved Christmas, animals, athletics and especially her family.
Julie is survived by her children Kelle Roberts (Timothy); Patrick Foley (Lisa) and Kristin Foley; grandchildren Andrew and Christopher Roberts and Joseph P. and Tiffany Foley and her dear friend Rise VanIderstine. She is also survived by her sister Barbara Campbell; sisters-in-law Margaret Foley and Ann DiNuzzo (Philip) and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Julie was predeceased by her husband Joseph P. Foley.
The outpouring of support received from the Academy of the Holy Names Community during Julie's illness was greatly appreciated.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at St. Madeleine Sophie, Carman Rd. Schenectady.
Interment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
