Julius "Skip" Aycox, Jr., 80, Glenville, NY, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Glendale Nursing Home. Born April 5, 1944, in Schenectady, NY., he was the son of the late Carrie Nell Miller and Julius R. Aycox.
Mr. Aycox received both a B.A. and M.S. in Education from SUNY Oneonta, a School Administration Certificate at SUNY Albany, and a Principal's Center Certificate at the Harvard School of Education. A lifelong educator, Mr. Aycox touched the lives of countless students, families, and staff throughout his career. He began his career as a classroom teacher at the Frankfurt/Schuyler Central School District, where he also coached wrestling, track, and football. Then his career transitioned to Schenectady City School District, where he continued as an educator from 1968 through 1999. He taught at Horace Mann School and at Martin Luther King Elementary School. He then worked as an administrator from 1972 - 1999 at King Elementary, Yates Arts-in-Ed Magnet School, and finally for the Alternative Programs at the Communities in Schools Academy. In addition, Mr. Aycox worked tirelessly within his beloved community for many years, including serving on the Jaycees (Chamber of Commerce), the Boards of Carver Community Center, Northeast Parent and Child Center, Hamilton Hill Arts Center, and the Law, Order, and Justice Center.
Mr. Aycox is survived by his children Christopher Aycox and his wife, Klara, of Prosec Nad Nisou, Czech Republic, Karin (Aycox) Welling and her husband, Dave, of Gainesville, VA, Kurt Osterlitz of Rotterdam, Kristen DeSalvatore and her husband, Dave, of Clifton Park, and Jon Osterlitz of Clifton Park; 14 grandchildren, Radim, David, Laura, Oliver, and Gabby (Prosec Nad Nisou), Emma and Samuel (Gainesville), Peyton and Grady (Rotterdam), Nathan, Daniel, and Morghan (Clifton Park), Ian and his wife, Lindsey (Averill Park), and Shane (Schenectady NY). Mr. Aycox is also survived by one great-grandchild, Beckett (Averill Park). In addition to his parents, Mr. Aycox was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Aycox, and daughter, Laurin Aycox.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025 from 4pm-630pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. A sharing of memories will begin at 6:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the ACLU, Huntington's Disease Society of America, or the Hamilton Hill Arts Center would be greatly appreciated.
