June M. Gerling

April 1, 1925 — May 19, 2013

ALBANY-June M. Gerling passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Community Hospice in St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, New York.
June was born on April 1, 1925 in Troy, New York. She graduated from Albany High School in 1942. She worked as a secretary for many years but was most proud of her tenure as program coordinator at Madison Ave. Presbyterian Church in Albany for over 23 years.
She lived a life of humble service and was actively involved in community organizations; having served on the board of the Girl's Club of Albany, the Girl Scout Council and was a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was a longtime member of the Business and Professional Women's organization. Along with Bill, her husband of 55 years, she was a volunteer with the Red Cross, Mobile Meals, and the Airport Ambassador Program of AARP. Bill and she were jointly recognized as the Volunteers of the Year in 1997 by AARP.
She was also very involved in the Presbyterian Women's organizations of her local church, Albany Presbytery and the Synod of the Northeast.
She was predeceased by her husband Bill; her parents Ralph and Ella (Swankey) Gifford; her brothers Ralph, Earl, and George Gifford; her sisters Ella Bruins and Virginia Sheffer; her infant granddaughter Jennifer Gerling and her granddaughter-in-law Denise (Roberge) Quickenton.
She is survived by members of a loving and devoted extended family including: her daughter June Ann (Ron) Hoffman and sons Jim (Jane Rea), Don (Susan Belcastro), and Mark (Amy Goldman) Gerling; her grandchildren Scott Meek (Kristin), Todd Quickenton, Christopher (Sage), Greg, Lisa, and Adam Gerling; step grandchildren David (Karen) and Brian (Laura) Hoffman; her brother Paul (Katheryne) Gifford, Sr. of St. Petersburg, FL; her sister Hazel Shirley Fogle of Danbury, CT; her sister-in-law Marie (Gerling) Heck; several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie.
A memorial celebration will be held at 11 AM on Friday, May 24, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, 362 State St. Albany, NY 12210.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Geneva (NY) Self-Development Fund, 7 Sherrill St., Geneva, NY 14456, the Memorial Fund of the First Presbyterian Church, 362 State St. Albany, NY 12210, or the Community Hospice Foundation, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144 in memory of June.
