SCHENECTADY – Katherine Jean McCrum, 77, passed away on Palm Sunday, March 28, 2010, at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Albany in 1932, Jean graduated from Philip Schuyler High School in 1951. She married her husband, Walter, in 1954 and moved to Schenectady in 1959. Jean worked in various places including Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home, Schenectady Public Library and the Schenectady Police Dept. Jean was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Walter E. McCrum, her parents, Katherine (Hellwig) Herrington and Austin Herrington and her beloved twin sister, Joan (Herrington) Montayne. Jean is survived by her children; Steven (Jeanne), Deborah (James Osterhoudt) and Robert, all of Schenctady, Theresa (Clark Greene) of Scotia, James (Jean) of Rotterdam and Ellen of MA; grandmother of Katherine (Michael) Dantz, Christopher, Austin,Ryan and Michaela McCrum, Douglas and Katie Osterhoudt and Casey Greene. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Jean believed in family and instilled a strong belief in family to her children. She felt blessed to have a special relationship with each of her children and she appreciated the closeness that they and their families have with each other. Jean maintained a core group of close, loving friends throughout her life. Jean's family would like to thank the 5th and 6th floor staff of Ellis Hospital for their professionalism that was only exceeded by their compassion and kindness.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory's Garden. Memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 1401 State St., Schenectady, NY 12304 in memory of K. Jean McCrum.
