Karen M. Pona

ALBANY-Karen M. Pona, 67, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014 surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Walter and Marion Frenzel and lived in Bayonne, New Jersey before moving to Albany. Karen worked as head bank teller for First Niagara Bank and M & T Bank. She was a devoted wife and mother. With her guidance, her sons grew up to be fine gentleman with great morals. Karen was a loving, self-less person willing to help anyone in need. She was a great cook and enjoyed traveling. Karen loved to walk the beaches and collect seashells. Karen will be sadly missed by all that knew her.
Karen is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years Charles S. Pona; her cherished sons Charles Michael Pona (Stephanie) and Nicklas Antony Pona and her loving grandchildren Brenden and Antonio McAuley. She is also survived by her siblings Walter Frenzel (Ann), Hal Frenzel (Cheryl), Edward Santoro (Linda), Cynthia Fritchie and Robert Frenzel (Dottie) and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Hospice and St. Peter's Hospital for the care and support that Karen received during her illness.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Friday, April 4, 2014 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM prior to the calling hours at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in memory of Karen.
