Karen L. Maikels, 62, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at home with her loving family by her side.
Karen was the daughter of Edna and the late Theodore Hornachek.
She is the devoted wife, of over 16 years, to Richard Maikels.
Karen was a Past President of the CSEA Local 696, she retired after 33 years with New York State, Department of Alcohol and Substance Abuse in Albany.
She enjoyed shopping, she was known as the "coupon queen", she had a love for animals and had a passion for helping people. She cherished her time with her granddaughters.
In addition to her mother Edna and her husband Rich, Karen is survived by her children; Dale (Adrianne Wright) Adami and Keri (Brian Rhodes) Papa. She is the adored grandmother of Sierra, Shyanna and Savannah Adami and Morgan and Alyssa Papa.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Burial will be private.
The family would like to thank the entire staff with Community Hospice for all of their care and compassion given to Karen and her family.
