Our beloved Karena Doris Grenstad, 48, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2018 with her loving family by her side after battling cancer.

Born in Amsterdam on March 10, 1970, Karena was the daughter of the late Stanley and Doris (Johns) Grenstad.

She graduated from Franklin Academy, Malone, NY in 1988.

Karena is preceded in death by her parents and leaves behind her beloved fiance and partner, Peter James Lomanto of Colonie. Peter and Karena were to be married on June 23rd and were so incredibly happy to be planning their wedding and life together. The entire Lomanto family welcomed Karena into their family with open arms and loved her as a daughter, sister, and aunt. Nephews, Jackson and Sammy continuously delighted Karena with their sweetness and smiles (not to mention their beautiful hair.)

Karena was an avid animal lover who could often be found in pet stores cuddling animals and smelling their puppy breath—her favorite scent. She will be extremely missed by her cherished pets, MickeyKriss, Bernie, and Lainie who were her heart and joy.
Karena touched and brightened the lives of the people she met. The lifelong friends she treasured were her family. She will be missed and remembered by the incredible friends and family who supported her during her courageous struggle with cancer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Hudson Mohawk Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204 or your local Humane Society. Additionally, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Services will be held on Friday June 22. Family and friends may call from 4-6 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie. A memorial ceremony will immediately follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
