Clifton Park - Kathleen Mary (Quinlivan) Mady, 81, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024, beside her husband John Mady at their home in Clifton Park. She was born on August 7, 1943, to Margaret and Dr. James J. Quinlivan, the second of five children: James (Priscilla) Quinlivan, Thomas (Louise) Quinlivan, Margaret (Ray) Quinlivan and Mary Ellen (Ed) Gibbons.
She leaves her husband John, daughters Maureen (Jim) Diem and Trisha (Martin) Zigrosser, sons Joe (Danny) Haughney and Dan (Cherie) Haughney, and grandkids who lovingly called her ‘Nina’ - Cameron, Megan (Jansen), Ryan, Connor, Nicky, Spencer, Katie, Jordan and Beckett.
Kathy worked for Albany International in Menands where she met the love of her life John Mady. They were married 26 years.
Kathy loved spending time in Maine with John, walking the Marginal Way in Ogunquit, strolling through shops, eating lobster rolls and enjoying the beautiful sunsets on the coast. She loved spending time with her four kids exchanging stories and jokes and serving her famous heart-healthy and low-salt recipes. She would brighten every St. Patrick’s Day baking loaves of Irish soda bread for relatives and friends.
Kathy’s sense of pride in her nine grandchildren was unmatched. She showed her love by sending thoughtful birthday gifts and goody boxes to her crew, and always beaming when talking about them.
Kathy’s love of nature was always apparent as she appreciated nature walks, growing beautiful flowers and watching the birds and other critters feast on their birdfeeders.
After battling breast cancer, Kathy was so thankful to be cured that she devoted her time to knitting soft hats for others undergoing chemotherapy. Over the last two decades, she lovingly made hundreds of hats for ‘Knots of Love’, showing what a caring and generous person she was.
Kathy had an invincible spirit and always found the positive aspects of every situation.
Her family and friends will miss the time spent with Kathy/mom/Nina playing cards and games, Wordle, relaxing in her home and enjoying walks with her. We will especially miss her infectious laugh. Kathy leaves in her family a profound sense of loss, but knowing her spirit is alive and well in a peaceful place.
