Kathleen Mary Nellegar, 65, of Guilderland Center N.Y. passed away on October 23, 2017. Kathy was born in Albany, N.Y. at Brady Maternity Hospital on November 16, 1951, the daughter of the late Margaret (Peggy) Schaller-Nellegar and James (Jim) Nellegar Sr. Kathy is pre-deceased by her beloved sister, Margaret (Margie) Nellegar - Snider.
Kathy is survived by her beloved sibblings Linda Ann Nellegar of Albany, New York and Jim Nellegar Jr. of Cohoes, New York; and beloved nephew and nieces: Eric (Elizabeth) Snider of Ridgewood, New York, Madeline Snider of Greenpoint, New York and Margaret (Peggy) Snider of Seattle, Washington.
Kathy was baptized and attended primary school at Our Lady Help of Christians in Albany, New York. She was a 1972 graduate from Cardinal McCloskey High School in Albany and, after graduating from Hudson Valley Community College (1974), Kathy enjoyed a long career with the New York State Office of Social Services/Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance working on automated collection systems for child support. Kathy treasured her time with her nephew and nieces at their little league, basketball, cross-country and dance events — and organizing (Schaller) family reunions at Mabee Farms.
Kathy was a member of the Guilderland Commmunity Gardens since 2005. During the last 12 years, she donated much of her produce to numerous charitable organizations and food pantries.
She also loved antiquing and was amateur photographer who exhibited at the Guilderland Library's Photo Forum. A member of the Albany County Medical Reserve Corps., Kathy was also a regular participant in the Lake George Polar Plunge.
A memorial service will be held at the New Comer Funeral Home at 343 New Karner Road in Colonie, N.Y. 12205 on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. to be followed by interment at Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery in Glenmont.
