TROY, NY – After a courageous and inspiring battle with cancer, Kathleen Elizabeth Grogan Smith, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2006. She was born in Albany and was the daughter of the late Charles and Caroline Grogan. After giving up her career at the New York Telephone Company, Kathleen became the beloved wife of the late Joseph P. Smith, Jr. She is survived by her "bookends" as she often called them, her daughter, Sharon Smith-Cannone of Troy and her son, Michael J. Smith of Cohoes. She is the cherished grandmother of Zakk, Summer, Madison and Samantha who along with her children were the joys of her life. Kathleen had a special bond with her adoring son-in-law, Anthony Cannone, Sr. and his son, Anthony, Jr. She is the loving sister of Charles F. (Sonny) Grogan of Florida. Kathleen was the longtime dear friend of Michael J. Ryan. She will always be grandmom to her four-legged grandkids: Fonda, Gremlin, Ditto and Lucky. Kathleen will be remembered forever for her love of her family and her enjoyment of life. The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the compassionate care she received from Sister Rita and Sister Maria of the Senior Transportation Program, the staff at Van Rensselaer Manor's B-3 Unit, the staff and volunteers of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, Dr. Darryl DiRisio and the 5th floor Neurological ICU at Albany Medical Center and Dr.'s Zackon and Spektor's team at New York Oncology & Hematology.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). A calling hour will precede the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Senior Services of Albany/Rensselaer County Transportation Program, Community Hospice of Rensselaer, the American Cancer Society or the Girl Scouts Hudson Valley Coucil in memory of Kathleen E.
