Kathleen G. Stallmer, 71, of Colonie, NY passed away July 20, 2024 peacefully at home ending her almost 20-year battle with Breast Cancer. Kathy is survived by her husband Dan and together they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in May. Kathy also leaves behind her proudest legacy, children: Jennifer (Jeff) Middendorf of Glenmont, NY, Douglas (Amy) Stallmer of Glenville, NY and Amanda Monthie (Peter) of Colonie, NY. Kathy cherished her role as Nana to her beloved grandchildren Daniel, Jason, Logan and Bradley Middendorf; Ash, Teagan and Theodore Stallmer and basked in their love and the joy they brought to her life.
Kathy is also survived by her siblings Connie (Late Danny) Conway, Rob Sheldon, Greg (Leslie), Chris and Gary Sheldon and was predeceased by her parents Leonard and Eileen Sheldon.
Kathy was a graduate of Mercy High School in Riverhead, N.Y. Soon after graduation from Suffolk County Community College, she left home to continue her education, but shortly after moving to Albany, Kathy met Dan and they both knew they wanted to be together for as long as life would allow. After raising her family, Kathy went to work for the Guilderland Central School District, followed by the Capital Region BOCES. Kathy enjoyed volunteering as a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Albany. Whether it was BINGO, the Annual Parish Bazaar or teaching Saturday morning religion classes, she was happy to serve. She also gave her time and energy to her children's school activities, including a term as President of the Colonie Central High School PTSA. Her most beloved activities lay in coaching her children's sports teams from T-ball through Softball, especially with the West Albany Athletic Assoc. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion Joseph E. Zaloga Post 1520.
Kathy loved to travel throughout the Northeast and down the East Coast from Maine to Florida. Las Vegas was one of her favorite destinations, but when her illness precluded flying, she took to the water- sailing with Dan on 15 Cruises with Norwegian Cruise Line.
Our family expresses our sincere thanks to Kathy's many doctors, nurses and caregivers who cared for her and especially the NYOH Patroon Creek staff- who, led by Dr. Lawrence Garbo, gave her eight more years with us when her cancer re-appeared as Stage 4 in 2016. Additionally, the family would like to thank the 5th floor nursing staff at St Peter's Hospital, and the Community Hospice Inn, (especially Wendy) for their compassion, care and kindness shown to Kathy.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie.
