ALBANY - Kathlyn R. Mellen of Albany, died peacefully on July 29, 2010.
She was born and raised, in West Pawlet, Vermont and then lived a full life in Albany, New York as a devoted wife, mother, friend, teacher and member of her community.
Kathlyn began her professional career as a nurse at the Albany Medical Center. Following time at home with her family, she returned to school to pursue a career in education. Kathlyn then worked as a grade one teacher for many years in the Shenendehowa Central School District. She loved her family, her friends, her dogs, and her professional work. Kathlyn was an active member of St. Andrew's Church for many years. Throughout her life, she was an avid walker, gardener, bridge player, baker and bird watcher. Following her retirement, Kathlyn loved spending the winter months with her friends in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. With her warm, loving and compassionate manner, she brought great enthusiasm to all that she did and touched the lives of all who knew her. Kathlyn made a wonderful difference in this world and she will be dearly missed.
Kathlyn was predeceased by her husband, H. John Mellen, M.D., her sister, Olga Roberts Fimbel, her brother-in-law, Joseph Fimbel, a niece, Joanne Thomas, and a nephew, David Fimbel.
She is survived by her children – John (Loretta), Susan, Janet and Linda, her grandson Evan, her niece Karen Fimbel Stunkel (Mark) and their children Anna and Brian and by her devoted friends, Nancy Bohl and Pat Thomas both of Albany.
