COLONIE – Kathryn E. Hughes, 95, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Kathryn was born on June 9, 1912 in Cheshire, MA and was the daughter of the late John P. and Anna Morey Gorman. She was a 1933 graduate of Trinity College in Washington, DC. She taught for The Learning Center in Albany for over 15 years, before retiring in 1998; prior to that she taught at various local schools. She was an opera singer, member of the Monday Musical Club, an active member of the Democratic Party Committee and was a communicant at St. Clare's Church where she sang in the choir and she participated in the Festival of Praise.
Kathryn is survived by her children, Cynthia A. Yarter, Nancy V. (Eugene) Sisson and Mary Lou G. (Robert) Milham; her grandchildren, Andrew, Brian, Joel, Heather, Evan, Carrie Anne, Robert Jr., John, James, Mary and Michael; 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph G. Hughes; her sister, Nancy Fahey and her brothers, Edward and D. James Gorman.
Funeral services will be held at 8:15 a.m. Saturday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to St. Clare's Church, Colonie where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held in the spring at Cheshire Cemetery in Cheshire, MA.
