We are sad to announce Kathryn M. Neuhart's passing at the age of 81 on Monday, March 11 at the Schenectady Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She passed peacefully in her sleep. She was born on November 18, 1941 and raised in Pittsburgh, PA., the daughter of William and Alice (Schirra) Schmitt and sister of Margaret (all deceased). Beloved wife of Bernard H. Neuhart, much loved by her children, David (deceased) Patricia and Robert. She graduated from Saint Canice high School and went to work for ATT long Lines Division She lived in Pittsburgh for the first 9 years of her marriage and then relocated with her husband to Schenectady New York on a job transfer.
While raising her children she was a teacher aide of the Talented and Gifted program at Saddlewood Elementary School. She seldom missed an opportunity to root for and encourage her children in their endeavors. Through baseball and basketball programs, home or away, she was always there cheering. She also encouraged the musical arts in her children, there for concerts and plays throughout the school years. She then joined Parsons Child and Development Center in Albany as a secretary and due to a proficiency with computers and Microsoft programming eventually she became the teacher and trainer for the agency, a job she loved.
She retired in 2002. She excelled in Arts and Crafts, such as sewing, knitting and cross stitch. She loved to bowl and was an excellent card player at bridge, double deck pinochle and most especially poker. Very good at word games due to four years of Latin at Saint Canice she enjoyed finishing the Sunday New York Cross word puzzle with her son Robert. Loved a good mystery movie and spent many a Saturday playing mystery computer games with her daughter Patricia.
Her favorite hobby was travel. A love that she instilled in her children. She visited Alaska and Las Vegas many times, being two of her favorite places to travel. She had visited many of the providences of Canada as well as the Caribbean, Bermuda, Puerto Rico and Curacao. During her travels she visited most of the fifty states with only a handful of exceptions. No part of the country was left unexplored. The list would have been finished with a trip to Yellowstone that was left in the planning stage when her health began to fade.
She was a diehard fan at every Pittsburgh Penguin and Steeler game. She loved her circle of friends, Friendships that lasted some 50 years from those who welcomed her from her old home in Pittsburgh to her home in Schenectady, Carol (deceased) and George McMillan, Frank and Lori Mahady She will be missed, but never forgotten.
