Clifton Park- Kay Sue Hogan entered into eternal life on May 29, 2016 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, after a long illness.
The daughter of the late Cecil and Isabel (Ruttan) Backus, Sue was born on January 30, 1940 in Watertown, NY. She was married to John J. Hogan on August 31, 1963 in Schenectady. Together, they raised their family in Rotterdam. Upon retirement, they lived for several years in Florida before relocating back to the area to be close to their grandchildren.
Family and friends were her passion and delight. Sue shared a special relationship with her sister, Joan. In her later years, Sue was sure to be found cheering on her grandchildren at their various sporting events and attending their school activities.
Sue is survived by her husband of 52 years, John J. Hogan; her daughter Nancy (Jeff) Lashway and their children, Elizabeth "Ellie" and Ian of Guilderland; her son John J. Hogan, Jr. of Cape Coral, FL; her sister Joan Coughlin from West Springfield, MA; her sister-in-law MaryLou Cooper of Rotterdam and numerous loving relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Sue was predeceased by her brother Robert Backus; her sister Nancy Hubbart and her brother-in-law Bernard Coughlin.
Sue's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Ellis Hospital for their loving and compassionate care.
Visitation will be from 10 am to 12 pm on Thursday June 2 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service celebrated by Fr. Jim Fitzmaurice will follow at 12 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie.
