Keith Mallet Metzler, age 86, passed away March 3, 2021, at Teresian House, Albany, New York, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
He was a beloved father, husband, stepfather, grandfather, and friend. A passionate artist, adventurer, and naturalist, Keith always chose the path less traveled while reveling in the wonder of it all. His infectious spirit, laugh, and passion for creating art transformed all who loved him.
Born in upstate New York in 1935, his life was guided by personal artistic expression and a deep love of nature and family. He received both his BFA and MFA from the California School of Fine Arts.
While continually creating art, Keith held teaching and curatorial positions at the Corcoran Museum School of Art, the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, the New Jersey State Museum, and the New York State Museum.
Keith resided most of his life in his art studio/home, the restored 1888 Edison Schoolhouse in Cropseyville, NY. He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife, Jeanette Pace, and brother, Richard Metzler.
Keith is survived by his son, Raphael Metzler of Cropseyville NY, stepdaughters Dianna Reagan (John) of Slingerlands NY, Doreen Walsh (Jon Whitney) of Watertown MA, brother, Jim Metzler (Irene), and siste,r Cathy Metzler, of Dolgeville NY, grandchildren, Kayla Metzler, Cole Reagan, and Jane Reagan and best friend, Ted Weyhe.
There will be a small service for immediate family members only. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Alzheimer's Association.
