COLONIE – Kenneth R. McClain, 73, passed away suddenly and peacefully Sunday, October 3, 2010 at his daughter's home in Kennesaw, GA. God, with Bettye at his side, smiled and received him with open arms.
Kenneth was born in Hazard, KY and was the son of the late Edward and Elva (Potter) McClain. He was an electrician with the IBEW Local 236 in Latham for over 29 years before retiring in 2002. He enjoyed fishing, driving, traveling, riding his motorcycle, the outdoors, but most especially taking care of his family. He served in the US Air Force from 1957 to 1962.
Kenneth is survived by his loving and devoted children, Sondra (Bobby) Reed of Smyrna, GA, Veronica (Tobias) Crenshaw of Kennesaw, GA, Gary McClain of Albany, Susan (Vaughn) Avery of Colonie, and Laneka Moore of Albany; his cherished grandchildren, Kenneth Martin, Jhaffre McClain, Tyler McClain, Niyree Adams, Ariona Adams, Mjaan McClain, and Rushon Young; his great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Jhaffre, Armond and Zion McClain, and Tyrel McClain Moore; his sister, Celia (Rick Bowling) Thompson; his brothers, Robert (Bobby Jean) McClain, Ralph (Barbara) McClain, Dan (Barbara) McClain, Mike (Faye) McClain, and Edward (Ilona) McClain; his beloved sister-in-law, Katherine (Horace) Hammonds; niece, Stephanie (Gordon) Mills, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 48 years, Bettye L. (Waite) McClain, who passed on January 10, 2009; his son, Kenneth R. McClain, Jr. and his sisters, Wilma Atchison, Irene Newby, and Gloria Wilkins.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Kingdom Reigning Worship Center, 74 2nd Ave., Albany. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Albany. A calling hour will be held on Friday from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the church.
