Kevin Eugene Coleman Sr., affectionately known as "Pop" to family and friends died Sunday, October 27th, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany following a lengthy illness.
Coleman, 65, who lived in Albany for more than 40 years, was a native of Hudson, N.Y. He was known for his quick wit, generosity, love, and devotion to his very large family. He was the owner of the popular Albany barbershop and hair salon "Hair Express by KC" at 94 Robin Street near Washington Park. It catered to some of Albany's most exclusive clients and was a place where the city's most influential African American movers and shakers often went for hair care services.
Coleman is survived by his wife of 46 years, Rosa (Smith) Coleman, a retired state employee and four adult children; Kenya Coleman of Albany, Kevin Jr. of Albany, and Jason and Chelsea Coleman of Englewood, N.J. He also leaves behind a son, Joshua Coleman of Harlem, New York. He was a grandfather to Sadante Marbley of Albany, Jaida Coleman and Maya Romaine of Albany, and Aspen and Zoe Coleman of Englewood, NJ.
Coleman was the son of the late Arthur and Mary Coleman of Hudson. He is also survived by two sisters; Cynthia Coleman of Atlanta, Ga. and Cheryl Coleman of Apopka, Fla. and five brothers; Carleton Coleman of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Sheldon Coleman of Atlanta, Ga, Trevor W. Coleman of Cohoes, N.Y., Russell Coleman of New York City and Jarrett Coleman of Claverack. He was preceded in death by brothers Eric and Mark Coleman.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 4th at the Greater St. John's Church at 74 4th Ave. in Albany. A viewing will be from 9 am-11 am and a funeral from 11 am -12:30 pm. He will be interred at Albany Rural Cemetery. All flowers will go to New Comer Cremations and funerals at 343 New Karner Road Colonie, NY 12205.
