Kevin Edward Cullen peacefully crossed the finish line at his own pace on May 1st at Saratoga Hospital, Saratoga Springs NY. His loving family was by his side.
Kevin ran a gallant race against the most dreaded competitor of all, Cancer. He ran even keel out of the starting gate, around the clubhouse turn, and to the quarter pole. Along the backstretch Kevin pulled ahead of his rival and was giving the race his all. He was still fighting and holding his own at the top of the stretch. As tired as he was, he forged ahead toward that finish line, as brave as could be. Neck and neck, he was so determined to win this race. As his pace slowed and he weakened more, it was evident who would cross that finish line first. Despite his huge efforts and with his head held high, the odds were just too great to reach that winner's circle. But Kevin will still wear a special blanket of roses, and remain a winner in our hearts forever.
Kevin was born in Hoosick Falls, NY on Sept. 2nd 1953 and was the middle child and only son of Delight (Hogan) and Joseph Cullen. He graduated from St. Mary's Academy, Hoosick Falls, NY and Pace University, Pleasantville, NY. He worked for many years in Finance at Community Health Plan, Latham, NY and retired after 20 years from the NYS Office of the Medicaid Inspector General. He loved his NY Giants, San Francisco Giants, Orange "CUSE", and in his father's shadow Notre Dame. And of course, the ultimate horse racing fan while compassionately contributing to "Old Friends" and other Equine Retirement Farms. He enjoyed traveling, "exploring" road trips, and spending time with family and friends.
Kevin was a quiet and dedicated family man. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 43 years, Cindy. His beloved children Caleb and Kady (Chris) of whom he was so very proud, and his cherished grandson Jacob. Also, his treasured sisters Betse Cullen and Patrice (Joe) Zedalis, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Becky and Bill Carr and brother-in-law David Gilman. Additionally, niece Kally (Jeff) Sheriff, nieces and nephews Payton and Conner Zedalis, Holly, Brady, and Nate Gilman, and several other cousins.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the wonderful nursing care on 3A at Saratoga Hospital as well as the impressive and professional RN staff in the ICU. Additionally, the outstanding and compassionate care from Dr. Gobunsuy, Dr. Vaghela, Dr. Dawson, Dr. Liebers, Jean Van Auken PA-C, and Murtaza Singaporewala PA-C. You are all valued and a credit to your profession and humanity. And genuine proof that despite the gravity of the disease, the individual as well as family are "seen" and tremendously respected. We are grateful for Dr. Duncan Savage also, who guided us perfectly in choosing Dr. Liebers and for providing unyielding support.
Family visitation is planned for Saturday May 11,2024 at 12 noon with a Memorial Service directly at 1pm at the Immaculate Conception Church 67 Main Street Hoosick Falls, NY.
