Kevin Dwayne Grace, 50, of Albany, NY passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 with his loving fiancé by his side. Born to the late great Flordia Mae Grace and Robert Lee Grace on February 2, 1967 in Quitman, Mississippi. At a young age the family relocated to the Capital District Region of New York where he resided up until the time of his death.
Kevin had an amazing childhood and grew up in North Albany, NY. It was here he became part of the original North Albany Crew. He also represented Downtown Albany as this area was also a part of his stomping grounds. Kevin was educated in Albany, New York school system and graduated from Albany High School with the class of 1986.
Kevin became known as Big Powerhouse and his younger brother Robert as Little Powerhouse which were names given to them by Jon and the late great Jarret Anderson. Robert (Rafiq) was not only his brother but truly his best friend. The two were tighter than super glue.
Kevin was not only loved by relatives but by many people he met or even came across for just a moment in time. He had an infectious laugh and an alluring personality as he grew into adulthood. Big Powerhouse was adored by so many from Albany, NY & abroad the United States, even oversees.
Kevin worked for an array of different employers. He was last and happily employed by the City of Albany as a Pool Ranger (Lincoln Pool) and a crossing guard during the school year (T.O.A.S.T & Hackett Schools). His primary job as a crossing guard was one he loved most. You would always see his infectious smile that could light the world up morning & afternoon. Even strangers became familiar with this beautiful being in the streets. Kevin was immensely loved and adored by faculty, staff, parents and children. Kevin's last day of work was December 11, 2017. He came home smiling and at peace. He had 2 gift cards from the school and parents for Dunkin Donuts and Price Chopper.
Kevin was full of life & VERY passionate about his sports. If you knew Mr. Kevin Grace, you knew he was a die hard fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Boston Celtics and the University of Alabama's football team (roll tide) !!! Kevin loved to travel and made sure to do so whenever he got the chance. On November 18, 2017, Kevin traveled to New York City's BB Kings Blues Club to see his favorite music group Loose Ends perform live. If this was not exciting enough, imagine how he felt when he got the chance to meet and take pictures with his favorite group. He talked about this concert for days on end. He was so elated.
Kevin met the love of his life, Vernetta Mitchell, June 20, 2010 during her birthday get together. From that moment on they were like peanut butter & Jelly. Something like Missy Elliot & Timbaland; they were inseparable. They lived life to the fullest together & in her arms was where he took his final breath.
