SCHENECTADY - Kevin J. O'Brien passed away on his 54th birthday, on Friday, February 12, 2010 at Ellis Hospital.
Kevin was born on February 12, 1956 in Albany and was the son of the late James T. and Margaret (Meehan) O'Brien.
Kevin spent his early years with his family in Watervliet and Albany. He later resided in Family Care in Schenectady and community residences of Schenectady ARC, Living Resources in Menands, and Schenectady DDSO where he developed many lasting friendships.
Kevin loved his work, his friends, and his family. He enjoyed dancing, listening to music, watching movies, bowling, boat rides, fishing, gardening, and playing games with friends and family. He created memorable pieces in his classes at the Living Resources Carriage House Art Center. Vacations in Brant Lake, Cape Cod, and Florida brought him special pleasure and wonderful memories. He was praised for his high production level in his work at the Center for the Disabled on South Pearl and enjoyed his participation and relationships formed at his Day Program at Guildcare in Albany. Kevin had a smile for everyone and generally got one back from anyone who met him.
Kevin is the dearly –loved brother of James (Sylvia) O'Brien of Rockville, Md., Michael (Ginny) O'Brien of Rensselaer, Peg (John) Tucker of Albany, Kathleen O'Brien of Schenectady, and Gerald (Joan) O'Brien of Loudonville. He is the uncle of Jennifer (Lewis Dubuque) O'Brien of East Greenbush, Brendan (Amanda Segilia) O'Brien of Brooklyn and Sharon O'Brien of Schenectady. He is the great uncle of Maura and Caroline Dubuque, and Gabriel O'Brien. He is the nephew of Norma O'Brien of Hoosick Falls and Ann O'Brien of Buffalo and is also survived by several cousins.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 9:15 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to Christ the King Church at 10:00 where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The parish family of Christ the King will gather at 4:30 p.m. for a service of prayer and remembrance. All are welcome. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Troy.
