Kurt W. Daigel

March 3, 1938 — April 23, 2024

Loudonville- Kurt W. Daigel, 86, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving family who adored him so much. He was the youngest son of German immigrants, Ludwig and Hilda Daigel. Devoted and cherished husband to Alice C. Daigel for over 62 years.

Kurt grew up in Brooklyn, NY and later attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. While at RPI, he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau where he made many memories and many lifelong friends. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree, Kurt went on to work as a Safety Engineer and spent most of his career working for the NYS Department of Labor.

Kurt traveled extensively with his beloved wife, Alice. They enjoyed many trips abroad, including Germany, Austria, Greece, and Italy. His collection of beer steins is impressive, as are the stories from Oktoberfest and all the other places they visited.

Cherishing time with friends, Kurt made it a priority to live his life on his terms - and with the people he treasured. With his close group of longtime friends, they shared countless good times. Attending hockey games at RPI, playing softball and tennis, bowling, card games, get-togethers, and Apple Fest in VT - these were all highlights of his adult life.

In his role as a father, Kurt found endless ways to show his love. From buying a sailboat and teaching his two sons to sail, to coaching little league, leading their boy scouts' troop, or attending countless hockey and lacrosse games, it was clear that his children were his priority and that spending time with them was the ultimate joy.

That joy quadrupled when his sons became fathers and blessed Kurt with four grandchildren. He adored each of them and made it a point to be an active part of their lives. There is nothing he wouldn't do for his grandkids. They brought so much love and happiness to him - as he did to them.

Kurt enjoyed spending time with his family and the many special friends who he considered family. He loved strong coffee, good beer, and a great party. He will be remembered as a great man with strong convictions, incredible will, and the biggest heart - truly one of a kind.

Kurt is survived by his wife, Alice of Loudonville, NY; his children, Roger Daigel and his wife Nikki of Winchester, MA; Keith Daigel and his wife Grace of Glen Ellyn, IL; his grandchildren Sophia Daigel, Trevor Daigel, Katerina Daigel and Camryn Daigel. Kurt was predeceased by his parents, Ludwig and Hilda, and by his brother Ralph.

The family is especially grateful to Community Hospice in Albany, NY for the tremendous support they provided in Kurt's final days. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Community Hospice Foundation, 310 South Manning Blvd, Albany NY 12208 or www.communityhospice.org.
