GUILDERLAND – Louis Herve Larche, 90, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2005 at the Teresian House.
Louis was born on November 11, 1915 in Malone, NY and was the son of the late Louis N. and Sylvia Chagnon Larche. He was a graduate of Franklin Academy, Malone, NY, Syracuse University where he played football and graduated with a degree in zoology and a minor in abnormal psychology and one year at McGill University Medical School in Montreal. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and flew five years in the U.S. Naval Air force as a pilot in South America, Caribbean area, Greenland, Iceland and England, attaining the rank of Lt. Commander. He was awarded the distinguished Flying Cross, three medals and several other miscellaneous awards.
Herve joined American Airlines in 1946 in the Operations Department; worked in all departments, advanced to auto sales department in 1948 and became District Sales Manager in 1960. He retired in 1980 after 34 years.
He was a member of the Albany Kiwanis; was past president and Lt. Governor, member of the bowling team and attended five International Conventions. He was past president of the Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity. He was president of the Capitol District Transportation Association, the only airline person to head this organization. He served as president of the Guilderland Fire Department for three terms and was a fireman for thirty five years. Member of the Naval Reserve Officers Association.
He was a former member of the Albany, Schenectady and Troy Chamber of Commerce, past Director of the Albany Chamber, past Chairman State Affairs and the National Affairs Committee. He was past president of the St. Madeleine Sophie's Men's Club. He served as Assessor for the Town of Guilderland for eight years, Assessment Board of Review for 10 years and became its chairman. He served as past president of the Altamont P.T.A. and Director of the Capitol District Bons Vivants. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Joseph Boldt Council. He was also a member of the Berkshire County Traffic Club, the American Legion, Fort Orange Post, the advisory committee of the Capitol District Travelers Aid, the advisory committee of the Hudson Valley Community College Transportation and Distribution Management, the Three Diamond Society, the AARP, past president of the Syracuse University Alumni Club, (Capital District), member of the original centralization committee of the Guilderland School System. A lector and Eucharistic minister and minister to the sick at Christ the King Parish. He enjoyed working several part time jobs, plus golf, gardening and travel with family and friends.
Herve is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara (Herrick) Larche; his sons, Rev. Jeffrey M. L'Arche of Altamont and James Larche of Guilderland; his daughter, Linda Ford of Guilderland; and granddaughter, Erin Ford. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Lorette Jennings, Rhea Brewer, Lucille McNulty, Pauline Mischler and his brothers, Alcide, Florant and Orance.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church in Guilderland. Interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Guilderland Center.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at church. The parish family of Christ the King Church will gather at 7:00 p.m. for a service of prayer and remembrance. All are welcome.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ the King Building Fund, the Teresian House, the La Salette Missionaries or the Guilderland Fire Department in memory of Louis H. Larche.
