NEW JERSEY – Ladie Pearl Whitehurst, 54, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2007 at Virtua Hospital in Mt. Holly, NJ after a long illness. Born in Bethel, NC on March 24, 1952, she is the daughter of Winnie Viola Wilkins and the late William H. Wilkins, Sr. She was a graduate of Albany High School. She began her career at Albany Medical Center where she worked for over 17 years. While living in New Jersey, she was employed at Deborah Cancer & Lung Hospital as a nursing assistant for over 20 years. Pearl is survived by her husband of 23 ½ years, William Whitehurst. She is the mother of Jermaine L. Wilkins and Ladie Diana Camille Whitehurst of NJ; stepchildren, Adrienne Carr, Jacqueline Jarman, Maurice and Ephraim Whitehurst of NC; granddaughters, Ariadne and Molly Wilkins; mother-in-law, Esther Whitehurst of NC; brothers, William (Kim) Curt Wilkins and William H. Wilkins, Jr.; sisters, Velma Wilkins McAdoo; brother-in-law, James McAdoo, Sr., Vivian Diane (Kirk) Faulkner, Cynthia Tanksley, Jacqueline Wilkins, Linda Andrews of NC and her adopted sister, Shirley Parson; sisters-in-law, Valerie Wilkins Roberts, Lillian (William) Leach, Annie (Spencer) Daniels; aunt, Mary M. Barnhill and uncle, Herman Ward. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. Pearl was predeceased by her sister, Teresa Wilkins.
Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Mt. Olive Southern Missionary Baptist Church, 236 North Pearl St., Albany. A calling hour will precede the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made at newcomerfamily.com
