Larry Shipman
August 17, 1951 — July 6, 2021
Rotterdam- Larry E. Shipman 69, passed away peacefully on July 6th 2021 at The Granville Center in Granville NY.
Larry was born on August 17th 1951 in Schenectady NY. He was the son of Gilbert and Thelma Shipman. He lived on Carlton Street in Rotterdam most his life.
Larry went to work for GE/ Knolls atomic laboratory at a young age and retired Feb. 2018. He married Marguerite (LaMotte) Shipman on Nov. 23 1978 and separated in 1999 however remained in each others lives. He started raising his step son at the age of 5 and had 2 children with Marguerite. Larry was a avid deer hunter and held NYS record for many years. He really enjoyed being on a bowling league in Latham NY with friends and family. Larry also was a little league coach for Colonie at Cook Park for many years while his son was growing up. Every summer he would take his family on camping/ fishing trips to Thompsons Lake and Catskill Creek. Larry also spent many years helping his beautiful mother in law Theresa LaMotte with her home in Colonie. He looked forward in stopping there after work everyday to check on her, take care of all her yard work/pool and taking out the garbage. Which in return Theresa would share dinner with Larry almost every day. They had such a good relationship that Larry cherished.
Larry ended up meeting his long time girlfriend Sandra Pratt. They built a beautiful country home together in Canajoharie NY where they spent many years together. He enjoyed watching the wildlife right from the porch deep into the wooded property.
Unfortunately Sandra passed away June 15th 2021. Larry was already sick in the hospital and had his children and separated wife by his side to support him till the very end.
Survivors include his separated wife Marguerite Shipman; His children Richard LaMotte (step-son) (Michelle) , Shawn Shipman, Catrina Shipman-Davis; Siblings, Elaine; Shirley and Carrie Shipman. 5 grandchildren: Alec, Kemper, Stephanie, Cadyn and Hudson and 2 great grandchildren Natalie and JJ. Several nieces and nephews. Larry was predeceased by his Father Gilbert Shipman, Mother Thelma Shipman, Brother Gilbert Shipman and long time girlfriend Sandra Pratt.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 12, 2021 from 11am-1pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie, NY 12205.
