Schenectady- Larry J. Trombley Sr., 72, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 27th at home, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Plattsburgh, the son of Wilfred and Theresa (Carron) Trombley. He leaves his wife, whom he spent the last 31 years loving, Laura (Mallette) Trombley, and two children: Tina Standifer of Senoia, GA, and Jackie Sauvageau (Jeff) of Spencer, MA. He leaves seven brothers and sisters: Linda Bachand (Bernie), Dorothy Ceringlia (Carl), Dennis Trombley (Denise), Victor Trombley (Joan), Brien Trombley (Sean), Tammie Jones, and Dale Trombley (Debra). He also leaves four grandchildren: Brittany, Eden, Logan, and Calen, and two great-grandchildren: Braelynn, and Wynnie, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Larry Trombley Jr., his brother Bill Trombley, and his sister Irene Adams.
Larry graduated from Linton High School and then entered the US Army in May 1967, training with the Infantry at Fort Dix, NJ. He was stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, AK during the Vietnam War. He was employed for 30 years at General Electric in Schenectady, NY as a machinist until his retirement in 2005. He was a lifetime member of the IUE-CWA Local 301 Union. He always enjoyed bowling, in which he spent 20 years coaching the sport to others. He was an avid hobbyist, building an incredible number of puzzles, models, frames, and pictures that he proudly displayed around his home. He especially loved his trips to Massachusetts to spoil his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, stepfather, and grandfather "Grampy" and "Peeka" to his grandchildren. He will surely be missed!
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 1st, 2021 from 1pm-3pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205. A eulogy will take place at 3pm. Private burial with full military honors will be held at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
