Larry W. Vannostrand

September 17, 1944 — May 16, 2023

Albany- Larry W. VanNostrand, 78, met his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. He had been a resident of the Stratton VA Hospital's Community Living Center in Albany, NY, for less than a month, following a 6-month stay at Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Scotia, NY.

Larry was born on September 17, 1944, in NJ and spent his childhood there. He enlisted in the Navy in 1966 and spent over 8 years serving his country. During his Navy years, he received much training in the medical field, serving as a hospital corpsman, operating room technician, and cardiopulmonary technician. After discharge in 1974 he used his medical training and specialized in the administration of cardiac and pulmonary departments. He worked in hospitals in several different states before coming to work at Albany Medical Center in 1991. He went on after several years to pursue cardiac consulting throughout the country.

Health concerns led Larry to leave the medical field and pursue other opportunities. He volunteered at his church, Grace Fellowship, doing various odd jobs until he discovered a ministry need to those in financial distress. This led him to create a program of financial classes, financial coaching, and benevolence for the Grace Fellowship attendees. Larry also extended the ministry beyond the church in various ways. He was happiest when he was helping others.

The past few years have been particularly difficult for Larry as he dealt with the increasing effects of Parkinson's on his body and mind. After being diagnosed in 2005 the disease slowly took its toll until he had to give up the ministry and eventually became homebound. He never gave up his desire to help, doing it from home very often with financial aid from his own resources.

Larry leaves behind his wife Janet of 52 years and three grown children: Eric VanNostrand, Lisa Lambert (Thomas), and Kevin VanNostrand (Jenny). He also leaves four cherished grandchildren: Jonathan VanNostrand, Kaylee VanNostrand, Bella Lambert, and Levi Lambert.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to either the Alpha Pregnancy Care Center, 518 Clinton Avenue, Albany, NY 12206 or City Mission of Schenectady, 425 Hamilton Street, Schenectady, NY 12305.

Services will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Grace Fellowship, 20 Delatour Road, Waterviet, NY 12189. Calling hours will be from 9:00 to 11:00 with a celebration of life service to follow at 11:00. Larry will then be buried at the Gerald H.B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 2:00.
