SCHENECTADY, NY – Laurence A. Smith, 70, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Ellis Hospital. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Lester and Grace Smith. He was a 1958 graduate of Scotia High School and attended Schenectady County Community College. Larry was a resident of Schenectady for most of his life. Larry was a U.S. Navy veteran, retiring after 27 years of service as Chief Petty Officer. He was the owner of Supply Line Associates and also worked for PrimeSource Building Supply from where he retired. Larry was a member of Guan Ho-Ha Fish & Game Club and the Boys Scouts of America, obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Larry is the husband of Beverly D. Smith who he married on March 10, 1962. He is the father of Adam W. Smith of Cobleskill, Chandra A. Santiago of Schenectady and Eunice J. Mercado of Scotia. He is the brother of Garry L. Smith of Stillwater, MN. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Amber and Courtney Mercado and his great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Vrabel.
Funeral services will be Friday at 12:00 noon at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (RT. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will precede the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Scotia Baptist Church, Mohawk Ave., Scotia, NY 12302 in memory of Laurence A. Smith.
