Lawrence Anthony Bach, 61, of Colonie, died August 12, 2006 at St. Peter's Hospice after a brief illness.
Larry was born September 23, 1944, in Jamaica, NY, the son of Edward and Matilda Bach.
He recently retired from the National Weather Service in Albany and was most recently employed in the religious education department of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Colonie where he was also a communicant and a member of the music ministry.
He was an active Scout leader with the Twin Rivers Council in Albany. He had received the District Award of Merit from the Fort Orange District and also the Silver Beaver, the highest award a scout council can present a Scouter.
At the time of his death, he was the Cubmaster of Pack 278, sponsored by the Pine Grove United Methodist Church.
He had also served the Boy Scouts as a trainer of adult leaders, Roundtable Commissioner, Unit Commissioner, a member of the Troop 278 committee.
Larry was also an active musician, playing several instruments. He played the trumpet in the U.S. Army Fourth Armored Division Band in Germany, from 1965 to 1967. He was President of the Colonie Friends of Music, a support group for the South Colonie School District music program.
He was a member of the Latham Knights of Columbus, the Joseph A. Zaloga American Legion, and was the local steward for the National Weather Service Employees Organization.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary Ann Bach; a daughter, Kristina Dean (David) of Antwerp, NY; four sons; David (Brenda) of Schenectady; Peter (Lori) of Schenectady; Stephen (Danielle), of Scotia; and Jason (Deanna) of Colonie.
He also is survived by five grandsons and one granddaughter.
Survivors also include: two sisters, Barbara Spano (Louis) of Hollywood, FL, Anne Bach (Carol) of Greensboro, NC, and one brother, Edward (Patricia) of Grand Prairie, TX., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 9:30 at Our Lady of Mercy Church where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
